MA CONTEMPORARY ART AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
The course programme is aimed at art and design teachers and artist educators who wish to re-awaken their creative practice through critical
engagement with their own arts discipline. Frequently the demands of teaching within a school system will remove art and design teachers from
their own creative practice developed at undergraduate level. This course will connect teachers back to their practice through study of current
contemporary art debates and methodologies in order for them to apply their practice back into an educational context, making them better teachers of art and design.
Run jointly between firstsite and Colchester Institute, students will benefit from the art, design and educational expertise of the College
and the access to contemporary art exhibitions and resources at firstsite. Students will attend lectures, workshops and seminars. The cohort
will have a group studio space at The Minories accessible throughout the two years of study to enable a space for developing own creative
practice, and will be able to access the art and design workshop areas at Colchester Institute.
Students will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, personal tutorials, group tutorials, practical engagement with your creative
practice, visits to exhibitions and artists studios and self directed study. The course will be run part time and sessions will be delivered at
weekends and in school holiday periods.
