Save Arts Subjects: Letter in The Times

Leading arts figures including NSEAD patrons Bob and Roberta Smith and Dr Janina Ramirez, have joined over 700 people signing an open letter led by Independent Society of Musicians, NSEAD and One Dance UK, as part of the Save Our Subjects campaign.

We all agree, the Ebacc set up a harmful hierarchy that has devastated many arts subjects in our schools, it needs to go. And, we need that to be just the start.

The Times, letter, is published as the government’s Curriculum and Assessment Review (CAR) panel prepares to share its Interim Report. NSEAD call on Professor Becky Francis and the CAR, to address the equally harmful impact of Progress 8 and accountability measures that limit learner choice and push the arts to the margins of our curriculum.

Great to see that so many NSEAD members and supporters that are signatories, and we are grateful to everyone who shared it. We have been proud to work with Independent Society of Musicians and One Dance UK as part of the Save Our Subjects campaign, and also with National Education Union with Arts and Minds.
