Organise, Educate, Agitate! Community and NSEAD working together

Members of the NSEAD executive were welcomed to the Community Trade Union at their Northampton headquarters in Earls Barton, t, marking the intention of the two unions to work and learn together for the mutual benefit of our members.

NSEAD General Secretary Michele Gregson, President Marlene Wylie, Honorary Treasurer John Childs and Past President Ged Gast met with Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss and Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid as well as the Chair of the Education Sector Committee Teresa Bottomley and Coummunity NEC member, Chris Wilson. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and sign a Memorandum of Understanding, and to discuss our mutual values and shared vision of an Education Sector that values its workforce, as well as how we can work together for the greater good.

Our memorandum of understanding contains a shared vision for working together, in areas where we can amplify each other’s voices, to benefit members from both organisations through support and collaboration – elevating the work that we do.

Michele Gregson spoke about the importance of providing professional support to enable members to thrive in the workplace, and to advocate for the work they do as educators.

Roy Rickhuss spoke with enthusiasm about our joint working with the Joint Union Asbestos Committee on the vital mission to eliminate RAAC in our schools and colleges up and down the country.

Our unions share a commitment to the power of education and professional development to empower our members, and equip them with the confidence and specialist knowledge to lead the agenda in their workplaces.

Chris Wilson NEC member for Community said:

This is Good news for the profession!  It is always good news when teaching unions work together, so it  is very welcome to see NSEAD and Community agree a Memorandum of Understanding on joint working. This is an exciting and positive development and one which has been warmly welcomed throughout Community.
