A short film introducing how teachers can interpret the national curriculum for art and design
This film commissioned by the Expert Subject Advisory Group for Art, Craft and Design (ESAG) explains the requirements and range of interpretations of the art and design national curriculum.
Three teachers – Marian Gager, headteacher of Evesham Nursery School; Natalie Deane, primary specialist teacher at Battyeford Primary School; Adam Elias, subject leader for art and design at Paddington Academy – talk about how the curriculum can be interpreted. Their narratives reveal links between the various phases of education: the value of direct experience and experimentation, the need for reflection and critical thinking and the importance of creative thought and expression.
The film is introduced and also directed by Eileen Adams and shows snapshots of pupils involved in a range of art, craft and design activities together with a examples of their work. The ''Art, Craft and Design in the National Curriculum'' film can be viewed here.
