A useful guide for taking students through some advanced steps in working with colour, with activities and tasks.
This project provides in teachers' notes form, the student project on colour.
Introduce the project by discussing colour properties and possibilities through physical (pigment) and optical (light) forms. Encourage pupils to consider colour within certain areas, which might be done through six groups:
- Manipulate colour - what happens when you mix primaries, secondaries, and when you add black or white?
- What happens when you variously prepare the paper you are painting on by soaking it or gluing the surface?
- What happens when you put colours alongside each other?
- Do colours have temperature?
- Do some come forward and others retreat?
- What happens when you look at colours at varying distances and under different light conditions?
