The work of the APPG, evidence and campaigns This presentation was given on behalf of NSEAD by Dr Rachel Payne. It is a summary of the campaigns and work undertaken by the APPG since its formation in 2013. The paper was written by Sophie Leach, deputy general secretary, NSEAD.

Why we need a moratorium on the sale of our heritage by local councils,14 may 2019: Bob and Roberta Smith OBE, RA, (Artist, NSEAD Patron) and Armaiti Bedford (Save Herts Arts) provide an update on the preventable and recent sale of a post-war ‘Art in Schools’ collection, in particular the disposal of the innovative educator John Newsom’s historic Hertfordshire School Loan Collection.

Eleanor Simms, Clare Bentham, The Outreach Team at Manchester School of Art challenge the speech given by Amanda Spielman, Chief HMI Ofsted, at the Association of Colleges’ (AoC) annual conference in Birmingham on 21st November 2018. The presentation outlines factual inaccuracies in Spielman's speech regarding arts and media career options.

The review, commissioned through the outreach and recruitment department, aimed to understand the challenges currently facing schools and how the NUA might actively support creative education regionally.

Greta Bertram shares the Heritage Crafts Association Radcliffe Red List of Endangered Crafts. The research, its aims and findings are summarised, together with issues affecting heritage crafts, to include both training and recruitment issues.
Lesley Butterworth, general secretary NSEAD, updates The APPG for Art, Craft and Design in Education on the work of NSEAD. This includes intended outcomes of meetings with Ofsted, the Society's work with Tate Exchange and this year's publication of The NSEAD Manifesto for Art, Craft and Design Education 2017.
GCSE and GCE results and trends 2017, 10 October 2017
Sophie Leach, assistant general secretary NSEAD, examines trends in the 2017 art and design examinations. The presentation indicates the downward trajectory for GCSE and AS-level art and design subjects. With numbers falling to the lowest level this century, the presentation ends by asking 'What will our subject look like in 2020.'

Dr Rachel Payne, Senior Lecturer in Art Education Oxford Brookes University, examines perceptions of the impact of secondary PGCE closures on individual educators, art and design departments, regionally and nationally. Also shared were perceptions of school led and PGCE and ITE routes (2013).
Dr Peter Gregory, Art and design in primary ITE, 22 February 2017
Dr Peter Gregory, Principal Lecturer in Education (Creative Arts) Canterbury Christ Church University, examines current routes into primary ITE and the changes in provision e.g. hour taught, for art and design specialisms. The focus of Gregory's research is between 1997 and 2010 and from 2010 to 2016. Today on average a student teacher is allocated an average of two sessions.

Lynn Provoost Assistant Head Teacher, and Damion Langford, Head of Communications and Careers, also describe their school’s ethos and its specialism in both arts and science.
Melanie Cox, headteacher at Gomersal Primary School, West Yorkshire, along with Mandy Barrett, specialist art and design teacher present on why art and design is offered as part of the core curriculum in Gomersal school.
Siobhan Verrall, together with Kenton's School's head teacher, Sarah Holmes Carne, explain how the Kenton School is able to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that includes art and design as a core subject across key stages 3-4.
